Kyphosis

What is kyphosis ?

Kyphosis is defined as the thoracic curvature of the patients on the lateral scoliosis is higher than the normal limits. According to the SRS classification, the thoracic (T5-T12) curvature varies between 10-400. Thoracic kyphosis is more common in male.

What causes kyphosis ?

Kyphosis usually occurs due to trauma, developmental abnormalities, degenerative disc disease and infection. In addition, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy or neuromuscular diseases, spinal and spinal cord tumors may also cause kyphosis.

What are the common reasons of kyphosis ?

  • Scheuermann’s Kyphosis

  • Latrogenic kyphosis

  • Posttraumatic kphosis

  • Ankylosing spondylitis

  • NM kyphosis

  • Congenital kyphosis
